Hand Loom Weaving
As explained on the Occupations
page, hand loom
weaving was the most common occupation in the western area of Rockingham Forest
from c1650 and 1900. By 1841, the industry had all but disappeared in the area.

Tanning
A form of tanning called 'tawing' took place in
Cottingham and Middleton in the 18th Century, a process where hides were tanned
with a solution of alum and salt.
