In the 1940s and 50s, there used to be a bookmaker, Clary Wilson, operating from
the former reading room in Church Street. Clary (pictured right) would take bets from the
villagers then run them up to the bookmakers in Corby.![](Photos-old/Bookmaker.jpg)
In the late 1960s, George Smith used the building as an
upholsterer's
workshop, having previously worked from a cottage in Corby Road. It
is now the workshop for Museum Casts.
